Apple is reportedly gearing up for one of the most significant upgrades to Siri since the voice assistant first launched. According to recent leaks and reports, the company is preparing to transform Siri into a far more intelligent AI-powered assistant with advanced conversational abilities, deeper system integration, and a redesigned user experience.

The revamped Siri is expected to gain major AI capabilities, allowing it to perform tasks more independently across Apple devices. Reports also suggest Apple is working on a completely redesigned Siri experience, including a chatbot-style interface and tighter integration across the iPhone, iPad, and Mac ecosystem.

While Apple has only officially confirmed that it is working on improving Siri, rumours indicate that the upgraded assistant could debut publicly alongside the iPhone 18 Pro lineup later this year. Early access for developers and beta testers may reportedly begin next month following Apple’s annual Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC 2026).

A recent Bloomberg report claims Apple is aggressively rebuilding its AI strategy after falling behind competitors in the generative AI race. The report also notes that delays in Siri’s development have created internal pressure, with the company facing criticism for lagging behind rivals such as OpenAI, Google, and Samsung.

The upcoming iOS 27 update is expected to place AI-powered Siri at the centre of Apple’s software strategy. Alongside Siri, Apple may introduce major upgrades to apps like Camera, Photos, Wallet, and Shortcuts. Some analysts are already comparing the scale of the redesign to the transformative software changes introduced during the iPhone X era.

Siri overhaul experience

Reports suggest Apple is redesigning Siri to function more naturally throughout the operating system. Instead of appearing only as a traditional voice assistant, Siri could become deeply integrated into the interface, potentially living within the Dynamic Island for faster access to actions, searches, and AI-powered tools.

Users may still activate Siri using voice commands or the power button, but leaks also hint at a new gesture-based shortcut. Swiping down from the top-centre of the screen could reportedly launch a new “Search or Ask” interface that supports both voice and text input in iOS 27.

This upgraded interface may allow users to search the web, open apps, send messages, create reminders, and perform in-app actions without manually navigating menus.

Siri may support third-party AI tools

Beyond Apple’s own AI systems, Siri could also support external AI services. Reports claim Apple has internally tested integrations with Google Gemini, OpenAI’s ChatGPT, and Anthropic’s Claude.

Users may eventually get the option to route certain queries directly through these AI platforms using Siri. Apple is also reportedly developing its own AI-powered web search experience to compete with platforms like Perplexity AI.

Additionally, rumours surrounding a dedicated Siri app continue to gain momentum. The app could function similarly to ChatGPT or Gemini, featuring conversation history, voice interactions, text input, and support for uploading files or images.

Siri may understand on-screen content

Apple is also expected to introduce several delayed Apple Intelligence features. Siri could soon gain the ability to understand and process personal information such as emails, messages, notes, reminders, and calendar events.

For instance, users may be able to ask Siri to identify free time slots before scheduling meetings or draft emails using details pulled from calendars and online sources. Siri may also analyse on-screen content in real time to provide more relevant suggestions and actions.

The redesigned interface is expected to feature rich information cards displaying weather updates, sports scores, news, locations, and people-related information.

Camera and Photos apps may receive AI upgrades

Apple’s Camera app is also expected to receive a more flexible and customisable interface. Reports suggest users could get access to an “Add Widgets” panel that allows frequently used camera controls to be repositioned for easier access.

Siri could also become integrated into the Camera app through a visual AI mode. Users may reportedly point their camera at objects and ask Siri questions or run AI-powered searches using services like Google or ChatGPT.

Meanwhile, the Photos app may gain new AI-powered editing tools called Reframe and Extend. Reframe could automatically adjust image perspective, while Extend may use generative AI to fill missing portions of photos.

More AI features expected across iOS 27

Apart from Siri, Apple is reportedly testing several additional AI features across iOS 27, including AI-generated wallpapers, grammar correction tools, and a smarter Shortcuts app.

The updated Shortcuts experience may allow users to create automations simply by describing actions in natural language. The Wallet app could also expand support for custom passes related to gym memberships, sporting events, and more.

Apple is expected to officially unveil these features during WWDC 2026 on June 8. However, since the information is currently based on leaks and reports, the final features may differ at launch.
